Kim Moistner-Bartlett spoke with us today about developing leaders and leadership skills in the higher education world.

Kim is an individual who is passionate about developing leadership in higher education, and specifically in student affairs and with student leaders.  She has blended her experiences in business and higher education administration to create Kimembee, a leadership development company.

She has held numerous professional roles including Assistant Dean for the First Year Experience, Director of the First Year Experience, Assistant Director of Residence Life, Area Coordinator and Residence Hall Director. She's worked at a variety of universities including The University of Southern Mississippi, Temple University, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Ball State University, Philadelphia University and the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

She has received state and regional awards for her innovative presentations, most notably in the area of customer service within higher education. She has instructed on-line courses on this topic for Student Affairs.com and Reslife.net.

Kim is also the author of “What if?” a weekly blog which challenges leaders and professionals to think outside of the box and be the best that they can be. Her blog is featured on Reslife.Net and Kimembee.com.

Interviewing Kim today is Melynda Davis, the Assistant Director for Residence Life at the Summit at Queens College in Flushing, New York.

The topic of service and therapy animals in on-campus housing is a hot right now.  So we had one of the leading voices in this arena join us for an interview.  Steve Waller is the director of residential life at Louisiana State University.  He is actively involved in ACUHO-I and currently serves as chair of the public policy advisory committee.  In this role he has been central in following the evolution of ADA and FHA rules on service and emotional animals in campus housing.

In this interview we spoke with Nadia Zhiri, a principal with Treanor Architects, a firm specializing in architecture, planning, interior design, historic preservation and graphic design.  Treanor’s portfolio and experience includes work on 175 student life projects at 75 campuses, encompassing over 20,000 beds in residence halls or Greek houses.  Nadia talked to us about an architect's perspective of designing housing to enhance student life.

In this interview, we talked with Jay Morley, Jr., the past president and CEO of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), a Washington D.C. based organization serving 2,100 colleges and universities.   Prior to serving at NACUBO, Mr. Morley served in financial and administrative roles at four universities.  Since retiring from his position with NACUBO, he has consulted on a wide variety of assignments for schools, colleges, universities and non-profits.

Mike has served at Auburn University for the past 15 years. He has 23 years of experience in higher education advancement, news, social media, integrated marketing and public relations. He serves as Auburn’s primary spokesman and leads the university’s crisis and emergency communications efforts, in addition to web and social media.

In this podcast, we interviewed Dr. Darlena Jones, Director of Education and Program Development for EBI MAP-Works, LLC.  Since 1994, EBI MAP-Works has been dedicated to improving retention, student success, and the quality of the college student experience.

Darlena received her Ph.D. in Physics at Oklahoma State University and has served as a faculty member earning several research and teaching awards.   Since arriving at EBI, Jones has published numerous articles in journals and has delivered more than 150 presentations and workshops at international conferences focused on assessment strategies, program improvement, student success, and retention.   She has repeatedly been an invited speaker at the National Conference on First-Year Assessment, hosted pre-conference workshops at ACUHO-I, ACUI, and NASPA, and workshops for the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education’s Foundations of Excellence.
